The Growing Wish Family

There are three new members in the Kids for Wish officer pool. Yay. We announced them today at the monday meeting. So major congratulations to the freshest additions

These people turned in some awesome applications but there were a lot of other ones that caused some intense debate about who to chose. It was such a close race in both categories. So enormous thank you to all the people that tried out for a position.

We are also having our first fundraiser this year. It was set up by the Make-A-Wish foundation for us. It's through the OC MARATHON. And it's totally easy. We raise money through a web page on their site and we get 100% of all the moeny that we raise. Awesome deal, no? Only catch is that all donations need to be made by credit card. We know that a lot of people might have issues with using their credit cards online, what with all the identity theft worries, so you can raise money... taking cash from these donators and we'll put the donation online for them. The donation is still in that person's name and they will get tax deductions. :)

There is now a t-shirt design contest for our club shirts. Fun fun fun. You can do anything that you want. But there are 2 rules. 1) The shirt itself must be in school colors but the images can be purple, yellow, pea green... anything 2) The name of the club must be somewhere on the shirt. But it would be nice if you added OXFORD ACADEMY and 2006-2007 somewhere in the shirt. And even though we choose the designs, we have to get administrative approval so keep that in mind. But on a final note... there's always an incentive for any activity in this club. Here...winner gets a free shirt. So save yourself a couple bucks...you can't win if you don't play the game. Thank you to evvvveerrrryyooonnnneee who came to the bonding event. Major fun there. Food, exhausting blob tag, animal herding, waterballoon fight, crazy relay race, smiles... what more do you need for a bonding event? It's great to finally know so of your guys' names and faces.

The Open Positions

Wow. We're sooo surprised that there's so much interest in the open officer positions. Way overwhelming. Ok, most of you already know that there are two spaces left to fill.

Activities commissioner. This person will need to come up with different events (bonding and fundraising) to do throughout the year. It is so important since our club revolves around the fundraising for our Wish child. He or she will work with the board members to get approval and execute the different events. To apply, you need to come up with 3 activities minimum and submit them to us. There are no limits to what these activities can be, except that they must be something the club could actually do. The board will base a majority of there decision on the activity list.

Historian. For this position, creativity is a must. He or she will create a scrapbook with pictures from the different events/fundraisers that we did to raise money for our Make-A-Wish kid. This scrapbook will be given to the child once we have raised enough money to grant his wish. You also need to take pictures at events or at least make sure someone will be there taking pictures. If you want to run for this position, you need to create a sample scrapbook page. This page does not neccessarily have to relate to community service, so the options are endless (a day at the beach, a concert, etc.) The board will base a majority of their decision on this page.

For both positions you must fill out an application. Both are due on Friday October 27. This is the same day as the bonding event. If you want a position, you should reeeaallly try to go. It will improve your chances since we'll actually be able to get to know you.

We've heard that some people would like a joint appointment for a position. For now, this isn't an option but if you do want to work with someone else, just make a note of that on your application. There's no promises that you two will work together though so please make seperate scrapbook pages/activity lists.

The First Event

WOOHHOO! We're having our first activity ever for the Kids for Wish club. It's going to be a bonding/park clean-up event. Come! It will be oh-so-much fun and there's the whole community hours incentive. It's next Friday (October 27) from 3:oo to 5:30pm at Willow Park. In case you have no ideaaa where that is, it's the park across the street from Lexington. And in case you have no idea where thhhaaat is, here's a map. There will be icebreakers, games, and free food. Some games might involve getting wet, so bring extra clothes if you want, and nnoooo white t-shirts. Let's keep it PG. And if you're signing up for the event, just put your name (first and last) in a comment for this post.

Alsoooooo, don't forget that all applications, parent consent forms, and receipts are due by Friday this week. You can turn them in to Ms. Sizer or to any of the Wish board members. But it's thiiiiss friday.

Remember that Wish meetings are every monday. You're only obligated to attend two per month but you might miss vital info. Thanks to those that came this and last week. MMMuuuuccchhhhaaasss freakin' ggggggggrrrraaaaccccciiiiiaaassss.

The First Meeting

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to the first meeting today in Sizer. Yes... I know that it was a Tuesday today but I doubt any of you guys would have come yesterday. Hah. Pinky swear that the meetings will be on Mondays during lunch the rest of the school year.

But if you missed the meeting, we had a short intro of the board club members, a re-intro of what the club is all about, and a short clip of this adorable kid named Elijah who wished for a Toys-R-Us shopping spree.

By the way, there's a new form that you need to fill out, the Parent Consent Form. Please turn this in with your app and receipt by Friday, October 20, 2006. Muccchhaaasss ggrraacciiaaasss.

The Approval

After months of major drama and waiting, the Kids for Wish Kids club is finally approved at Oxford. SCORE!

So, with the administrative business out of the way, we can actually put this club into action. And the first step is for all you members to turn in the applications with receipt to show your payment to Mrs. Smith. The fee is $7 and if you don't have an app yet, we'll post a link online sssooooonnn. Sorry for the confusion for those who tried to pay before we opened an account with the school. We were waiting for the approval message!

Please get those in when you can...

The first official club meeting is on TUESDAY OCTOBER 10 during LUNCH. I know that's not Monday like the meetings usually should be but there's no school on Monday so we're making an exception. Come! We'll be showing a tape to introduce the program.
